lanauditor: automatically track hardware and software assets enterprise wide.
- Small inventory agents (*.EXE's) are run on workstations and
servers to collect inventory data which is then stored in central
or localized lanauditor data files (*.LAD).
- The inventory data files are imported into the lanauditor
management 'console' where your data can then be examined and
reports generated.
lanauditor ships in a single version which includes a 32 bit
console plus auditing agents for various platforms (Windows,
NetWare, MAC etc). The console requires Windows 9.x or NT 4.0.
The console is best installed on a local hard disk (i.e. not a
network server). There are three reasons for this:
- It is often more secure, and always available
- With large databases, the data throughput is more efficient
- Network users have no need to access any portion of the main
program or data. Install to the network only if more than one
person needs supervisory access to lanauditor.
lanauditor Installation
lanauditor is installed by the SETUP.EXE program supplied on the
lanauditor CD-ROM or download. The SETUP.EXE program:
- confirms that you have Administrator privileges (if installing on Windows NT)
- checks for sufficient space on the disk for the installation
- installs the console to the destination directories, updates the Windows Registry and creates a new Program Group for lanauditor
Run SETUP.EXE from the lanauditor CD ROM or
download LANauitor ,
and follow the on-screen prompts to install the console.
The standard version of lanauditor available on CD or via
free download
will allow the storage and manipulation of up to 25 Computer records,
plus unlimited General Equipment, Software License and
Software Dictionary records. The console may be expanded at any
time with the purchase of a license code.
lanauditor Upgrading
- As with all database maintenance operations, a full data backup
should be made prior to performing the update.
- lanauditor v4.x.x must be installed to a new location -
do not overwrite your existing lanauditor directory.
- lanauditor v4.x.x uses an improved license mechanism -
codes from earlier versions are not recognized. You will require
a new format valid license code from your supplier.
- Users of lanauditor v97xx* may use the Inventory | Export |
To Auditor feature in their existing console to export all data
into an AUDITOR.DAT file. This format is recognized by lanauditor
v4.x.x and the data can be re-imported into the new console.
Queries and the custom software dictionary cannot be transferred
automatically. Please contact us for
help if you need to transfer custom software information to
v4.x.x - a free service is available.
Once the data has been transferred and fully qualified the previous
installation can be deleted.
If you use any version of lanauditor prior to v97xx
contact us
if you wish to transfer your database contents. Your audit data
may not directly be imported directly into lanauditor v4.0 as an
AUDITOR.DAT file.
See the lanauditor: Getting Started tutorial.
It's also an option on the Start/Programs/lanauditor v4.x.x menu.
